The Most Holy Trinity, Year C, Jn. 16:12-15

Jn. 16:12-15
“When you love you should not say, “God is in my heart,” but rather, “I am in the heart of God.” (Khalil Gibran) It is very difficult to define the essence of God. When we tend to say that “God is… “Actually we are limiting His essence. However, the ordinary human mind needs certain symbols to grasp the glimpse of this incomprehensible reality. As we keep the solemnity of the Holy Trinity, it is also an occasion to reflect on the very essence of God. John defines this essence as follows: “God is Love.” The Triune God is one, but three persons united in love. The notion of Triune God is the uniqueness of Christianity, this can be considered as the greatest revelation that God has given to humanity by fulfilling the salvific mission through his son in collaboration with the Holy Spirit.
The characteristic feature of this divine love is the communion. This perfect communion bonded them together and makes them one in will. Father who willed the salvation history, Son, from the fullness of this love, ready even to abandon his equality with the Father, accepts humanity in order to fulfill the mission of the Father; the Holy Spirit accompanied the Son and continues the mission of salvation by filling the human hearts with love. The entire salvation history can be considered as a mission to love. John summarizes the salvation history as follows: “God so loved the world that He gave His only Son.” Jesus gave a new dimension for this love: “Love one another as I have loved you.” At the altar of the cross Jesus defined his ultimate expression on love: “There is no greater love than laying down one’s own life for his friends.” Where there is love there is Holy Trinity. When we live our life in love, we live in the heart of God and partake in the communion of love. Let our life be a celebration of God’s love…
